Double-pipe heat exchangers in WTS
The entries for the calculation of a double-pipe heat exchanger are done in the mask 'Basic data selection'.
This mask is the first mask to appear after program start. By selecting the option 'double-pipe heat exchanger' in the 'calculation options' field, the calculation is initialized.
There are several tubes and pipes in the
database which can be selected in the selection boxes
'Internal tubes' and 'pipes'. The data of these tubes
(outside diameter and wall thickness) can be saved.
If you want to use tubes and pipes which are not listed in the selection box, you can overwrite the values for outside diameter and wall thickness directly in the fields. You can change the values in the WTS mask as well.
The installation position, horizontal or vertical, is no criterion for the calculation of single-phase media. It is only considered for condensation processes.
Select the tube-side and shell-side media and confirm your selection by pressing 'OK'. The next mask 'Visual WTS' is displayed.

In this mask, you may enter your system data for the tube-side and shell-side media. Confirm your entries with 'OK'. The program switches to the WTS input mask.
Here you may complete or correct your system data (pressure, temperature, mass flow).
If your system data are complete, the calculation is started and the required bundle length is calculated.
>> Enter the final bundle length i.e. the bundle length of the manufactured heat exchanger. The exchanger is recalculated with this bundle length.
As the heat transfer is depending on the length of the tubes, especially with laminar flow, the required bundle length may change after you have entered the final bundle length. Please adjust the final bundle length to the required bundle length. The difference between required and final bundle length is the 'design reserve'.
If the final bundle length gets too large and you have to use several exchangers in series, you can consider this by entering the 'number of serial exchangers'.
>> Adjust the final bundle length to the required bundle length.
Complete the design by entering the nozzle diameters to determine the pressure drop.
