General product description

Program features

The WTS program designs shell-and-tube heat exchangers

·         with baffles (segmental baffles or disc / doughnut)

·         without baffles (pure countercurrent or cocurrent  flow)

·         of plate-fin type

as well as

·         double pipe heat exchangers

Media can be single-phase media (liquid or gaseous) or condensing pure substances (Condensation of pure substances, isothermal condensation).

You cannot calculate evaporation and condensation of multi-component mixtures (except humid gases) with the WTS program. In this case, you can use our VERD program (evaporation of pure substances) or the MESK program (condensation of gas mixtures with or without inert gas).

The heat exchangers might be horizontal or vertical.

The program creates a complete specification, a sketch with dimensions and a true-to-scale drawing. Individual company standards can be considered in the design.

Geometry

The shell side and tube side of the heat exchanger can be designed according to the TEMA code or according to one's own company standard. The TEMA code can be selected as a general option, whereas the company standard is administered by the user with predefined editable dimensions.

Tubesheet

The user can create the tube sheet with all details manually or the program generates it automatically and then it can be adapted to special requirements. You can save the data as a DXF file for use in a CAD program.

The program generates tubesheets with 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8 tube-side passes and 1 or 2 shell-side passes.

Heat transfer

The calculation of shell-side and tube-side heat transfer coefficients is based on the theoretical approaches of the VDI Heat Atlas in case of single-phase media (liquids / gases) and for condensation of pure substances.

In case of condensation (condensation of pure substances or partial condensation with humid gases), different equations are applied, which depend on the installation position (horizontal/vertical), the type of medium and the location of the condensation process (tube-side / shell-side).

Physical properties

Separate modules provide the properties for many other substances. For all other substances, the user can specify the physical properties.

The HX module (optional) which contains the Mollier diagram provides the data for humid gases.

The physical properties for water and steam are provided by the H2O module according to the international the steam tables.

For gases, the standard reference conditions are 0 °C and 101325 Pa.
