Introduction

Basics

For the calculation of meshed pipe systems the method of HARDY-CROSS is known. Though, problems may occur in case of non-linear elements like fittings, orifices or cross section changes.

For the simulation of sprinkler systems is also necessary to consider the dynamic response of the nozzles, i.e. the amount of water outlet as a function of the local pressure.

Program features

The program ROHRNETZ (PIPE NETWORK) allows the simple calculation of pipe networks with any number of internals as well as the calculation or simulation of sprinkler systems. Thus, complex systems can be designed, simulated and even optimized for particular reference variables.

The dialogue with the program is done on a graphic surface.

The pipe network may be divided into single segments and be calculated in these segments. The output represents the pressure drops, mass flows and flow velocities in every separate run. Additionally, the supply quantity and the heads of the connected pumps are displayed. Pipes and gusset points can be given names for the documentation.

Furthermore, for the simulation of sprinkler systems the amount of water outlet of each nozzle is calculated, which allows to assess the system under different load assumptions.

Using an additional module enables you to do unsteady calculations. One or several inlet or outlet points can be calculated e.g. as a function of a pressure change in the whole system. Additionally, the data of any pipe run can be determined as a function of the time and be transferred to WORD or EXCEL.

Structure of this manual

In the chapter Creating a pipe network you can find instructions how to create and calculate pipe networks and how to format the output.

If required you can also get a detailed explanation of the menu items of the basic mask in the chapter Description of the menus.

The section Working in the basic mask explains the various input options in the basic mask (not via menus).

In the section Definitions the basic terms for the program ROHRNETZ (PIPE NETWORK) are defined.
